We close the loop: Turns faserkreislauf x Nordlicht
A shirt with history and future
What happens to clothes that are no longer wearable?
Most of it is burned or exported as used textiles. Only a fraction of it flows back into a true cycle. We want to change that. Together with TURNS, we have developed a T-shirt that demonstrates what is possible when you don't waste resources but rethink them.
👉 Our T Shirt Nela made from recycled old textiles and organic cotton
A new shirt made from old textiles
The Nela T-shirt is made from 30 percent recycled cotton. Not from production leftovers, but from real, worn clothing that would otherwise have ended up in the trash. Together with our partner TURNS, we've brought these materials back into circulation.
The remaining 70 percent is made from high-quality organic cotton, making the fabric soft, durable, and comfortable to wear. The result is an eco-friendly essential. Handmade in Portugal, OCS certified, versatile, and plastic-free.
How does recycling work
TURNS collects discarded clothing and sorts it by material, quality, and color in its own recycling centers. Through gentle mechanical recovery, the fibers from cotton textiles are separated and spun into new yarn. This transforms old clothing into new products like our Nela T-shirt.
Why we do this
Almost 13 million tons of clothing end up in waste in Europe every year. Only about one percent is recycled into new clothing.
That's why we're working with Katja and Angelique from TURNS. They demonstrate what a sustainable textile industry could look like: circular, fair, and transparent.
With the T-shirt Nela we are taking a first step.
