Portugal

We were back in Portugal again. It's where our collections are created and ideas become tangible pieces. In our travel journal, we show you how closely we work with our production partners, how we refine fits and select materials. You'll get a glimpse into the places where Nordlicht is made and the people behind each and every garment.

Arrival

We regularly visit our production partners to further strengthen our collaboration and continuously improve the quality of our collection. Our trip takes us once again to the Porto area, where we personally work on new fits, details, and materials. This direct, on-site exchange fosters mutual understanding and makes decisions clearer and faster. People who know each other communicate differently, and this is evident in every step. Together, we continue to develop the new collection and refine the fits until everything is just right.

Meetings & Fittings

From the initial design to the finished product. All garments are produced in Portugal in accordance with strict ecological and social standards. We have personally inspected collection pieces on-site, finalized cuts, optimized fits, and spoken with the people who craft our clothing with expertise and care.

Craftsmanship with heart

Our production takes place in traditional family businesses where craftsmanship is passed down from generation to generation. This allows us to combine high quality with a long tradition in textile production. We also make progress in production every year. Our partners use a higher proportion of renewable energy, and digital cutting processes help to further reduce fabric waste. We are GOTS-certified and continue to work with GOTS-certified companies.

final collection

By the end of the journey, most of the decisions for the new collection have been made. We're constantly reminded of how quick and enjoyable direct communication is, especially since many meetings usually take place online. We were particularly touched by how many employees have remained loyal to our partner companies for years. Trust and responsibility are palpable here. During production, it becomes especially clear to us how much care and dedication goes into every single piece of the new collection, and that our most important message remains clear: sustainability is not a trend, but a long-term commitment.

Portugal's fashion industry

Sustainability and craftsmanship

Portugal has focused on environmental awareness and sustainability in the fashion industry, through renewable energy sources and environmentally friendly production processes. The expertise of highly qualified craftsmen combines tradition with modern methods, creating long-lasting clothing and emphasizing social responsibility.

Family businesses ensure controlled working conditions and fair pay, which contributes to an ethical and sustainable production chain. The proximity of production facilities enables short supply chains, reduces the carbon footprint and promotes the overall sustainability of the production process.
